Department Announcements Postural ScreeningPostural Screenings will be done at Middle School East during the month of Febuary. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.
ScreeningsDuring the next few months, our school nurses will be conducting hearing screening for Grades K – 3, 8 &10, vision screening for Grades K – 5, 8 &10 and BMI (height & weight) screenings for Grades 1, 4, 7 &10. These screenings are mandated by The Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Parents will be notified by mail of findings with recommendation for follow up with an appropriate healthcare provider. Flu UpdateThe Massachusetts Department of Public Health has recommended the flu vaccine (injection or nasal spray) be given to everyone 6 months of age or older. This year’s vaccine contains protection against both H1N1 and seasonal influenza.
Please be advised that flu clinics will NOT be offered this year in our schools. We strongly encourage you to take your child to his/her primary care provider for the flu vaccine.
Children who have flu-like illness (fever with cough or sore throat) should be kept home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever (without the use of fever reducing medicines). For most children this will be about 4 days.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping our children and our schools healthy. For more information about the flu, go to mass.gov/flu. Call Back SystemAs we continue our prevention measures regarding seasonal flu and H1N1, we are requesting that when parents use the call back system to report their child's absence, they report if their child is absent due to flu-like symptoms. Flu-like symptoms include a fever of 100F or greater accompanied by a cough and/or sore throat. Students may not return to school until they are without a fever for 24 hours.
